Kalidas Madhavpeddi will be appointed as Glencore’s new chairman on Jul 30, following Tony Howard’s retirement from the role.
The global miner indicated in a statement on Jul 5 that Madhavpeddi has over 40 years of international mining industry experience, including as China Moly’s chief executive officer for 10 years starting from 2008.
His career began at Phelps Dodge, working from 1980 to 2006 and eventually becoming a senior vice president. Madhavpeddi has been a Glencore board member since February 2020 and also serves as a non-executive director of Novagold Resources, Trilogy Metals, and Dundee Precious Metals.
The announcement comes within a week of Gary Nagle taking over the company’s reins as the chief executive officer upon Ivan Glasenberg’s retirement.
Glencore is a global diversified natural resource company and produces over 60 commodities. The company has approximately 150 mining and metallurgical sites and oil production assets in over 35 countries.
