Germany’s crude steel production in February stood at 3.09mn mt, down by 10.4pc from the same month in 2020 due to unfavorable weather conditions in the country, according to data released by the German steel federation Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl (WV Stahl). The association said that the recovery of German steel production is expected to remain weak.


The decline in the country’s steel output in February ended the continuous growth trend witnessed by German mills since mid-2020.

In the first two months of the year (Jan-Feb, 2020), the country’s crude steel production fell by 2.6pc to 6.40mn mt from the prior-year period.


Hot-rolled steel

In February 2021, the country’s production of hot-rolled steel dropped by 5.9pc to 2.78mn mt from February 2020. It, however, increased in the Jan-Feb period by 1.8pc to 5.83mn mt as compared to the same period in the prior year.


Pig iron

Germany’s pig iron production in February stood at 1.95mn mt, down by 8.4pc from the year before, while in the Jan-Feb period, pig iron fell by 0.5pc to 4.15mn mt as compared to the prior-year period.
