Gerdau and Shell partner to construct the Aquarii 190MW direct current (DC) solar project in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The plant will be built in the city of Brasilândia, and both companies will maintain 50pc investment and control in the clean energy joint venture.

The solar farm will provide output for Gerdau’s steel mills, and the remaining output will be traded in the Brazilian free market in 2024 and forward. Guilherme Perdigao, Shell’s supervisor of renewables and power options, Brazil, noted this as the first solar energy partnership by the company in Brazil. Shell also plans to start similar renewable energy projects in the state of Paraiba.
