Brazil’s antitrust authority (Cade) has approved Gerdau’s acquisition of steelmaker Siderúrgica Latino-Americana (Silat).

In November 2019, Gerdau agreed to purchase Silat a partnership composed of two Spanish firms, Hierros Añón and Gallega de Mallas, for $110.8mn.

Gerdau now controls 96.35pc of the company’s shares, while the remaining 3.65pc remains under the control of the Economic Development Agency of the State of Ceará.

Gerdau did not respond to queries from Davis Index about the transaction.

Siderúrgica Latino-Americana, which has long rolled steel capacity of 600,000mt per year, is located in Caucaia, a city in the northeastern Brazilian state of Ceará.

Silat mainly produces rebar and wire rods for the civil construction industry.
