French steel exports rose in August compared to July, said the Fédération Française de l’Acier (FFA). However the exports of French long steel decreased 40pc to 12,000t (12,000mt) in August compared to 20,000t reported during the same period a year ago.

 

Flat and long rolled steel to countries outside the EU28 increased 14.2pc compared to August 2018, reaching 137,000t (137,000mt). During the same period, exports of flats rose 25pc to 125,000t from 100,000t a year ago.

 

Between January and August 2019, French long and flat product exports to non-EU countries rose 2.1pc to 149,000t per month. Flats, in particular, experienced a 4.9pc monthly gain equivalent to 129,000t, up to 122,000t per month between January and August 2018.

 

During the same eight-month period in 2019, French exports of longs declined 13pc to 20,000t per month from 23,000t per month during the same eight-month period in 2018.

 

The FFA also reported that, so far in 2019, both long and flat products had declined 21pc compared to the full 12 months of 2018.
