Italian engineering firm Danieli has won a tender to supply Russian steelmaker AO Severstal with a new special steel rolling mill at its Cherepovets integrated steelworks, according to a press release on the company’s website on Dec 18.
The new plant will produce 1.0mn mt per annum of 5.5 to 32mm diameter smooth wire rod and coiled bars, for engineering and automotive industries, and 8 to 16mm diameter quenched rebar, for the construction sector.
The company announced that Severstal would install their Centro Combustion-branded walking beam reheating furnace, which brings 12m-long, 150mm square billets to rolling temperature at a pace of 170mt per hour.
The Cherepovets Iron & Steel Mill has a crude steel capacity of 11.6mn mt per year and has the ability to produce a wide range of hot and cold-rolled flat products, including galvanised and colour coated steel, and long steel applications.
Danieli expects the new special steel walking beam furnace startup will be installed and operational at Severstal’s Cherepovets works by the end of 2022.
