Cosco Shipping Group’s container production doubled in the January-April period boosted by the growth in the shipping market. The company’s container manufacturing division has been operating at full capacity with new container production is up 116pc from a year ago. Cosco completed production of 346,000 TEUs of new containers in the January-April period.
Short supply of empty containers due to disruptions caused by the pandemic accelerated container production at Cosco leading to new highs of monthly production. The company’s monthly delivery volume at Qidong Plant rose to 60,000 from 20,000. Container manufacturing at its plants in Guangzhou, Qingdao, Jinzhou and other units is also in full swing.
Cosco’s order books are flooded with orders from shipping and leasing companies based in the US, Japan and Germany. Cosco’s container manufacturing segment accounts for nearly 35pc share of the global market.
