Production at Constellium’s Muscle Shoals facility in Alabama could get impacted after several employees went on a strike on Dec 18, citing unfair labor practices and health care demands.
The strike was initiated by about 400 workers who are part of one of the largest labor unions in the country, United Steelworkers of America. According to media reports, the company is already working toward a mutual settlement of the issue.
The workers on strike represent about one-third of the plant’s total labor force. The plant produces aluminum can sheets, made from recycled aluminum cans. The factory processes close to 20 billion aluminum cans a year, but it isn’t clear yet how the strike will affect those volumes.
