Chinese carmaker Great Wall Motors (GWM) is set to invest $1bn in a manufacturing facility in Talegaon, Maharashtra. GWM had reached an agreement to acquire the facility from General Motors in January this year. The carmaker is known to produce SUV model Haval.
GWM is likely to focus on the manufacturing of SUVs and pickup trucks. The earlier facility owned by GM had an annual capacity to produce 165,000 vehicles and 160,000 engines. The automaker now plans to ramp up the 300-acre facility with automated plant and robotics technology.
In 2019, British brand Morris Garages acquired by Chinese automaker SAIC launched their Hector model in India. MG has a manufacturing facility at Halol Gujarat.
