China expects its recycled nonferrous metals output to reach 20mn mt by 2025. Of these, output for recycled copper is expected to reach 4mn mt, aluminum 11.5mn mt and lead 2.9mn mt. 


During the 14th five-year plan (2021–2025), China’s resource recycling industry will reach CNY5 trillion, according to local media reports. The National Development Reform Commission of China is focused on developing the country’s circular economy to safeguard national resources.


In 2020, recycled nonferrous metals’ output reached 14.5mn mt or 23pc of the total domestic production of 10 nonferrous metals. The output of recycled copper,  aluminum and lead stood at 3.25mn mt, 7.4mn mt, and 2.4mn mt, respectively.


China’s plan is in sync with the global thrust to lower carbon footprints and establish circular economies to protect environmental resources.
