China’s bauxite imports dropped to 7.49mn mt in Dec 2020 from 8.85mn mt in the prior-year period, a deficit of 15.32pc. This is also 6.93pc less that its bauxite imports in November 2020, which was 8.05mn mt, as per the data released by Chinese General Administration of Customs.
The value of bauxite imports into China was at $33.23mn in December 2020, down by 21.55pc from $42.37mn in the prior year period.
The average import price of bauxite per thousand mt stood at $44,336.68, down from $47,859.17mt last year.
From January-December 2020, China imported 11.15bn mt of bauxite, compared with 10.06bn mt in the same period last year, an increase of 10.83pc.
From Guinea, China imported 4.29mn mt of bauxite, an increase of 20.15pc same period in 2019; and 3.89mn mt in Nov which is an increase of 10.20pc.
China imported 2.01mn mt of bauxite from Australia in December, a drop of 45.96pc from Dec 2019; and down by 26.21pc compared to November, when 2.72mn mt was imported.
From Indonesia, China imported 974,630 mt, down by 37.41pc compared to prior-year period and down by 22.65pc from November 2020.
