China has allowed 26 foreign companies to import aluminium and copper scrap into the countries through 44 certified domestic importers, according to local media reports citing the release of the second batch of approved importers by the China Metal Recycling Agency. The list was published in the last week of February said reports.

 

It may be recalled that China banned the import of solid waste from 2021, but later took a decision to allow only high standard scrap meeting reclassified standards.

 

China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association’s secondary metals branch allowed the licensed foreign aluminium and copper scrap companies including American companies Omnisource LLC and Golden Bridge International Group and other companies from Italy and the United Kingdom, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong.

 

The association has also allowed 44 certified domestic importers located in 10 Chinese provinces, including Tongling Nonferrous Group and Ningbo Jintian Copper to import copper and aluminium scrap.

 

In December, China announced the first batch of nine foreign overseas suppliers to export scrap and 16 importers to import scrap. Last year, China imported 943,789mt of copper scrap and 824,570mt of aluminium scrap.
