The Chilean Anti-Price Distortion Commission (CNDP) has initiated an anti-dumping (AD) investigation on Chinese steel bars imports used for the manufacturing of conventional grinding balls with a diameter less than four inches, the organization said in a statement.

The authorities will probe and investigate products classified under Chilean Harmonized System code 7228.3000.

The petitioner for the anti-dumping investigation was Compañía Siderúrgica Huachipato S.A.

The company alleged that the increase in Chinese steel bar imports is hurting the domestic industry and not adhere to international prices in the petition.

The petition also said that the domestic steel industry is facing a drop in production, sales, and employment, while there has been an increase in Chinese steel production, installed capacity, and inventory.

The preliminary research for the probe is currently underway.
