US primary aluminum producer Century Aluminum’s chief executive officer Michael Bless will retire from his post on July 1, 2021. He will be succeeded by the company’s current chief operating officer, Jesse Gary.
Gary has been with Century since 2010 and served various positions in the company’s legal, human resources, and business development fronts. Andrew Michelmore, chairman of the board, noted that Gary has been instrumental in the expansion of Century’s capacity at Grundartangi, and in acquiring the Century’s Sebree, Mt Holly, and Vlissingen facilities.
Before joining Century, Gary was part of a couple of law firms since he started his career as a lawyer. Talking about his appointment, Gary said that he was excited to drive the company toward its low-carbon aluminum goals and supply the market with the aluminum required for the global recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
