Central Asia Metals (CAML) resumed production at its Sasa plant after receiving and go ahead for cleaning the leakage at its tailings storage facility  in North Macedonia. The company has also paid an environmental fine of €65,000.

Sasa plant would initially operate at a reduced rate of about 50pc for a trial period. The trial period is expected to last around one week, before the ramp-up to full production.

In January, CAML gave 2020 Sasa ore production guidance of between 825,000 and 850,000mt with zinc-in-concentrate of between 23,000 – 25,000mt and lead-in-concentrate of between 30,000-32,000mt.

While the ore mined in 2020 was likely to remain within that guidance range, CAML said it now expected ore processed to be between 800,000- 825,000mt, given the downtime from the incident.
