Canada’s gross domestic product (GDP) rose by 3pc in July from a month earlier, according to a Statistics Canada report. 

 

The country’s manufacturing sector grew by 5.9pc in July, with many manufacturers ramping up production after COVID-19 lockdown measures eased. Contributing the most to this growth was transportation equipment manufacturing, which increased by 16.6pc. 

 

Motor vehicle production rose by 10.5pc, while motor vehicle parts increased by 38.6pc in July. However, ship and boat production declined by 7.9pc, StatCan reported. 

Fabricated metal product manufacturing also increased by 4.7pc in July over June.

 

The mining industry saw a 10.8pc rise in production, as copper, nickel and zinc mining rose by 35.4pc in July. The construction sector also rose by 0.6pc in July compared to the previous month, StatCan noted.
