Canada’s building permits rose by 8.2pc to C$9.9bn ($7.82bn) in January compared to the previous month, according to Statistics Canada (StatCan).
The country’s residential permits rose by 10.6pc to C$7.1bn in January compared to December with permits for single-family homes rising by 15.1pc to C$3.5bn. Multifamily homes increased by 6.5pc to C$3.5bn in January compared to the previous month, StatCan stated.
Non-residential building permits increased by 2.6pc to C$2.8bn in January after a 10.8pc drop in December 2020. Under this, the industrial permits increased by 31.7pc to C$535mn, commercial permits rose by 3.3pc to C$1.5bn while institutional permits dropped by 11.8pc in January to C$781mn compared to December.
