British Steel plans to increase the production at its North Lincolnshire, Scunthorpe and Skinningrove, Teesside locations by spring next year.

Since March, the Jingye Group has made significant investments in the steel mill’s business and people, enabling the firm to grow and increase production, it said in a statement on Nov 26.

Its Skinningrove location is looking to increase production capacity to seven days a week as a 24/7 facility from 24 hours a day five days a week currently. The plant already employs around 300 people and is planning to recruit 41 more people in manufacturing roles for the location.

At its Scunthorpe location, the steelmaker plans to recruit 25 employees as trainees in addition to the 40 employees it recruited in May this year to introduce an extra shift.

The firm plans to recruit a total of 66 employees across both locations to help increase the production levels in 2021. The company did not mention the expected increase in production.

British Steel has facilities across the UK and Europe and produces close to 3mn mt of steel across all facilities per year.
