Brazilian crude steel production rose by 7.5pc to 2.6mn mt last month from September 2019.

 

Brazilian rolled steel production, however, fell by 2.6pc to 1.9mn mt in September from a year ago, while semi-finished steel output plunged by 31.9pc to 456,000mt, Aço Brasil IABr, Brazil’s steel institute, said in a statement.

 

Brazil’s steel consumption rose by 8.2pc on an annual basis to 1.9mn mt in September, with domestic sales also increasing by 11.8pc to 1.8mn mt. 

 

The South American country exported 756,000mt of steel last month to decline by 20.9pc from a year earlier, and imports fell by 22.9pc to 142,000mt, Aço Brasil IABr said without disclosing figures from 2019.

Between January and September, Brazil’s crude steel production to 22.3mn mt, a 9.7pc decline from the same nine-month period last year, while rolled steel production decreased by 10.8pc to 15.5mn mt over the same period. The country’s semi-finished steel output between January and September this year decreased by 10.4pc to 5.9mn mt compared to the same period in 2019.

 

The South American country exported 8.6mn mt in the January-September period, a 9.9pc decline from the prior-year period, while imports fell by 22.9pc to 1.5mn mt, Aço Brasil IABr said.
