Flat steel sales increased 19pc in Brazil between January and June 2021, compared to the same period last year, according to data from the National Institute of Steel Producers (INDA).
In its Aug 24 report, INDA stated distributors sold 2.18mn mt of flat steel products the first six months of the year, up from 2.57mn mt sold in H1 2020.
In contrast, sales were down 23.8pc in July 2021, to 344,000mt from 451,443mt of flat steel products sold in the seventh month of last year.
Carlos Loureiro, executive president, INDA, explained that this decrease in sales is the consequence of an increase in imports last month.
July imports increased by 181.9pc, to 211,300mt from 74,900mt imported in the same month last year.
