Brazil’s crude steel production dropped by 39pc to 1.81mn mt in April from 2.97mn mt last year according to the latest figures from the Brazilian Steel Institute (Aço Brasil).
The country’s flat steel output declined by 32.8pc to 782,000 mt in April, while rolled steel production decreased by 36.6pc to 1.23mn mt. Domestic steel sales fell by 35.6pc to 976,000 mt last month from 1.51mn mt in April 2019.

Steel consumption in Brazil dropped by 34.6pc to 1.12mn mt in April 2020 from 1.72mn mt a year ago. The South American country’s exports fell by 17pc to 883,000mt last month from 1.06mn mt during the same month last year, while steel imports decreased by 24pc to 186,000mt from 244,000mt, according to Aço Brasil.
