Aluminum shipments to Brazil dropped by 15.6pc in Q1 2021 to 39,685mt from 47,053mt in the same quarter last year, according to Customs data from the South American country.

 

Brazil’s aluminum imports dropped by 1pc to 14,302mt in March from 14,302mt in the same month last year, the data indicated.

 

Mexico remained the largest exporter of the metal to Brazil, with shipments that were up 144pc in March at 5,381mt from 2,207mt in the same month last year, and was up 70pc from the previous month. Paraguay’s aluminum shipments to Brazil also rose by 37pc to 1,581mt from 1,152mt in the same timeframe. 

 

Aluminum shipments from Chile rose by 4pc in March annually to 903mt from 871mt and fell from Colombia by 39pc to 897mt from 1,461mt.

 

Aluminum scrap shipments from the US, which was among the top three exporters to Brazil last year, more than halved to 486mt in March from 1,059mt in March 2020.
