Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Brazil received 20,000mt of CA-50 steel imported from Turkey to offset fight high prices in the local market, reported the Brazilian Chamber of the Construction Industry (CBIC).

The CBIC has partnered with the Cooperativa de Construcción Civil del Estado de Santa Catarina (CooperconSC) to purchase and process the imported material meant for 137 construction companies from eight different states.

The Brazilian Association of Machinery Manufacturers (Abimaq), reported an increase of up to 100pc in some steel products as of June 2020.

According to the CBIC, even with the tariffs, the cost of imported material was 5pc lower than that of Brazilian steel.

That is why the CBIC and CooperconSC have already agreed on an additional 20,000mt delivery, which should arrive in Brazilian ports this September.
