Class NK, a leading classification society in the ship recycling industry, has issued a statement of compliance (SoC) to PHP Ship Breaking and Recycling Industries.
PHP is now one of 35 ship recycling facilities in the world to receive the statement of compliance certification from Class NK; and the first in Bangladesh. The Class NK SoC verifies that PHP adheres to the Hong Kong international convention for safe and environmentally sound recycling of ships, 2009 (HKC).
PHP’s ship recycling facility plan also went under successful review by Class NK, including on-site technical inspections. The SoC demonstrates that a ship recycling facility meets a wide range of stringent environmental and social criteria listed under the Hong Kong Convention, which is globally accepted as the leading standard in the sector.
Till 2019, PHP handled 140 different types and sizes of ships with an approximate tonnage 1.71m LDT. PHP is also the largest HRC manufacturer with current total production capacity at 0.25mn mt per annum.
Bangladesh imported 30 ships in Q3 2019, the second largest importer of scrapped ships in the world.
