Baowu Steel Group is expected to ignite its giant 5,050cubic meter #3 blast furnace at Zhanjiang steelworks in the second half of 2021. The blast furnace will be commissioned in August.
The #3 BF will have an installed annual ironmaking capacity at 4mn mt and 3.6mn steelmaking capacity. The unit will feed hot rolling mills to produced high-strength steel and auto sheets.
With this addition, the Zhanjiang steelworks’ annual steel production capacity will reach 12.5mn and finished rolled steel capacity will hit 10.8mn mt.
The project is part of Baosteel’s capacity replacement plan. The BF in Guangzhou province will replace iron and steel capacities from Shanghai Meishan Iron and Steel and Wuhan Iron and Steel.
