Turkish automakers have halted production as COVID-19 is on the rise in the country. The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey has laid down rules to combat the spread of the virus which restrict free movement.

 

Oyak Renault has halted its production units and said that, gradually, it will temporarily suspend operations in all its automobile factories. 

The production resumption date will be in line with the developments in the country. The plant produces 378,000 cars annually.

 

Honda has stopped production in its Gebze Sekerpinar facility and will resume by April 6. The plant has a production capacity of 50,000 units. However, Honda had previously announced that by 2020, the company will end production in Turkey, in line with the company’s global strategy. 

 

Anadolu Isuzu is sticking to the state’s framework of measures taken to reduce the spread of COVID-19. The company has decided to suspend operations starting from March 30 for nine days straight. The company has an annual production capacity of 19,000 units (as of 2018).

 

Mercedes Benz has also decided to shut production down at its bus factory in Hosdere for two weeks, from March 23, and at its truck factory from March 28. 

 

Ford Otosan has also suspended operations at its Kocaeli and Eskişehir plants until April 6, 2020, which has been extended to April 13.

Karsan automotive will suspend all operations across the country from April 1 to April 10.
