Australia’s iron ore shipments to China increased by 16pc in December 2020 to 40mn mt from 34.4mn mt in November, according to the Pilbara Ports Authority.
Port Hedland shipped a total of 46.5mn mt of iron ore last month, up 11pc compared with 41.6mn mt in November 2020, despite a 26-hour shutdown of the port on Dec 10 due to cyclonic weather.
The port handles shipments for Australia’s largest iron ore miners such as BHP and Fortescue Metals Group, with a majority of the cargo destined for China.
