German copper producer Aurubis AG has invested around €60mn ($70.7mn) to renovate and upgrade its recycling site located in Lünen, Germany, which is expected to increase its efficiency and capacity by 10pc, the company said in a statement.
The renovation includes the demolition and reconstruction of the tankhouse basins that will occur over three years and other improvements to the production facility which will require three years to be completed.
During the period, the facility will be operating at 80pc of its original capacity. Currently, the company has begun work on the second phase of the tankhouse overhaul.
Around 250,000mt of recycled material out of 350,000mt of total material is processed at the recycling site annually. The facility produces 190,000mt of copper cathodes per annum.
