Cyprus-based Atalaya Mining Plc’s copper production increased by 5.3pc in the second quarter of the year (period ended June 2021) to 14,353mt when compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Compared to the prior quarter (Q1 2021), the company’s copper production rose by 2.7pc.

Atalaya plans to continue with its 2021 copper production guidance range of 52,000mt-54,000mt within the year.

The company attributes its increased output to better ore grades. Despite ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, mining operations continued in Q2 normally with higher production levels compared to the previous quarters.

In Q2 2021, Atalya processed 4.03mn mt of ore, with low-grade stockpiles contributing to the volume. On-site copper concentrate inventories at the end of Q2 stood at 15,103mt. All copper concentrate in stock at the start of the quarter was delivered to the port at Huelva.
