British luxury auto producer Aston Martin Lagonda plans to start production of new electric vehicles (EVs) in the UK from 2025, according to media reports. The focus could be on battery sports cars and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) at plants in England and Wales, respectively.

The company informed according to preliminary arrangements, Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz may supply batteries to the company. But Aston Martin is still mulling other arrangements.

The company’s decision to build EV cars in the UK comes after the British government has given a push to electric vehicles and announced its plans to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles by 2030. New rules require every new vehicle sold in Britain to be electric or a hybrid by 2030.
