Argentina’s crude steel production dropped by 19.6pc in January to 298,200mt, compared to the same month in 2019.


Iron ore production also fell by 17.2pc in January this year to 207,100mt, compared a prior year, according to data releaed by the Argentine Chamber of Steel. Hot-rolled coil production down by 4pc to 290,200mt while cold rolled coil reached 120,200mt tonnes, up by 51.7pc in comparison with January last year.


According to the data, crude steel production in the South American country dropped in January due to lower demand for steel products in the construction industry. Furthermore, the lack of big infrastructure projects in the country are keeping the demand for steel low, the association indicated. 


The construction industry’s growth in Argentina fell by 7.9pc in 2019 compared to the prior year, according to figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Census (Indec).
