Argentina’s ferrous scrap imports almost doubled to 2.3mn mt in January-July from 1.3mn mt imported in 2020, according to the country’s Customs data. The South American country’s ferrous scrap imports totaled 933,241mt in January-July 2020. 

 

In July, ferrous scrap imports increased by 96pc to 999,722mt from 509,316mt in the previous month, making July’s import volumes the highest so far this year.

 

The bulk of Argentina’s ferrous scrap imports came from Paraguay, which shipped 933,200mt to its neighbor, up 114pc from 436,000mt in June and accounted for 93.3pc of Argentina´s total ferrous scrap imports. Germany followed with 48,576mt, up 2pc from 47,516mt in June. Mexico, which did not have any shipments to Argentina in June, shipped 17,496mt in July, while Brazil, which had shipped 35,800mt of ferrous scrap to Argentina in June did not have any exports to the South American country last month.
