American aluminum rolling mill Arconic plans to spend $100mn to expand production and operations at its Tennessee can sheet plant in Blount County.

According to a release by the Tennessee government, the new investment will create 200 new jobs at the facility. The plant is solely focused on producing industrial grade and packaging grade aluminum sheets. While the company has spoken of expansion to meet growing demand from the packaging industry, it has still not laid out an annual production capacity or schedule.

In late June, the company said that its order backlog already stood at close to $1.5bn, from companies such as Ball Corporation, AB InBev, and other players in the packaging market, with contracts signed until 2024. Arconic also produces aluminum products focused on the automobile, aerospace, and industrial construction sectors of the US.
