ArcelorMittal is set to supply 2,200mt of head hardened rails of 60E 1 grade for Delhi-Metro Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) line under the Delhi-Meerut corridor project, state media reports.
The National Capital Region Transport (NCRTC) had invited bids for the project in Dec 2019. The technical bids which opened on Feb 24, 2020, had five contenders with ArcelorMittal S.A. as the lowest bidder (L1). Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL), another major steelmaker in the country was found to be non-compliant as per the eligibility criteria.
These special rails are manufactured through a special heat treatment process for strength, lower residual stress, elongated track-life and to minimize maintenance.
Once the financial bids are evaluated by NCRTC’s procurement and finance teams, ArcelorMittal would be issued a Letter of Acceptance (LoA). The company is likely to manufacture and deliver them within 24 months from their Gijón Rail Mill in Asturias, Spain.
