Steel long products producer, ArcelorMittal Poland (AMP) has re-elected Sanjay Samaddar as its chairman and chief executive officer.

According to the company’s release on Oct 8, the board approved six changes in top-tier management in a recent meeting. Samaddar will replace Marc De Pauw who took the position in December 2019 after the former left to fulfill various other roles within the company. De Pauw will remain on the board of the company.

Samaddar has been with the firm since 2003 as a director, before the ArcelorMittal merger took place in 2006, after which he was promoted to the position of chief executive officer of ArcelorMittal Ostrava. He then held the same position at the Poland subsidiary from 2009-2019.

AMP has permanently shut down its 250,000mt per year blast furnace in Krakow, owing to both the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as high carbon tax levied on steel in Europe. The brand will now focus on coking coal production and downstream products only.
