Steelmaker Anglo American Brazil and wind power firm Casa dos Ventos have entered into a joint venture to build a wind farm in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, which will supply 30pc of all energy consumed by the former.


Under the project, worth BRL2.4bn ($440mn), will develop eight wind farms, three of which will produce energy to feed Anglo American Brazil’s power plants.


Construction of the project, which will be named Rio do Vento, will be completed in H2 2021, the steelmaker said in a statement.


The wind farm will have an installed capacity of 504 MW, of which 195 MW will be destined to meet Anglo American’s consumption, the steelmaker said, adding that the contract runs until 2041.
