Global conglomerate ArcelorMittal’s (AM) offer for Liberty Steel’s ailing units in France is pending with the European Union’s antitrust body, and a decision is expected on Jul 9.
ArcelorMittal had disclosed its plans to buy the Ascoval and Hayange plants of the indisposed Liberty Steel in June this year, according to media reports on Jun 7. On Wednesday, reports noted that Union may either accept AM’s bid by the said date or open a four-month investigation regarding the purchase.
Earlier in June, this year AM had only hinted that it was one of three interested steelmakers throwing its hat in the ring to make an offer.
