The Aluminum Association has developed an economic stimulus framework that underscores how indispensable aluminum production, fabrication and recycling are to the US economy.
The association’s framework titled, “American Aluminum Jobs: Essential to the Nation,” explains the central role the metal plays in national security, especially during prolonged conflicts or national emergencies, like the current COVID-19 pandemic.
Tom Dobbins, chief executive officer, the Aluminum Association, noted that the industry is responsible for creating products that will become increasingly essential in the weeks and months ahead as the US settles into mass quarantine. In addition to creating critical apparatus used during public health crises, such as medical supplies, the industry is responsible for building materials, transportation equipment, and food and beverage packaging.
Therefore, the association argues, it deserves essential designation from the all levels of government.
The Aluminum Association is also asking for government grants that will go towards capital projects, as well as tax incentives, a credit insurance program, defence spending, and more.
