Michel Huot took the reins at Aluminerie Alouette as acting president and chief executive officer this week.

Huot replaces Patrice L’Huillier, who resigned from the position after serving as the company’s chief executive officer for three years. The Canadian aluminum maker announced that Huot is an apt replacement because he’s well-versed with the sales and operations of its flagship Sept-Îles aluminum smelter.

In new role leading the company, Huot will also oversee the company’s modernization strategy to ensure the aluminum maker’s “long-term sustainability,” said Darren Colwell, chairman of the owner’s committee at Alouette.

A veteran in the aluminum industry, Huot has over 30 years’ experience holding various leadership positions, including chief operating officer and plant general manager at Sohar Aluminum and Rio Tinto, respectively.

Aluminerie Alouette’s Sept-Îles-based smelter is the largest in North America.
