TheAluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) has certified nine Alcoa mines, including Huntly, the world’s second-largest bauxite mine.
The company’s other certified mines are Willowdale, Kwinana, Pinjarra, Wagerup refinery, and Port areas of Kwinana and Bunbury.
Fiona Solomon, Alcoa’s chief executive officer, is particularly pleased the Huntly mine in western Australia was certified and lauded the company’s commitment to sustainability and responsible production. She added the ASI certification will buttress Alcoa’s long-term value.
The certification is based on three sustainability pillars: governance, environment, and social. ASI’s certification has 59 criteria, including greenhouse gas emissions and biodiversity.
