Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

AIM recycling has been forced to close its Saint John, New Brunswick facility while awaiting an inspection by the province in response to recent explosions at the site. The city of Saint John requires that plants put stiffer operating guidelines into practice.

AIM recycling Atlantic processes steel, iron, and aluminum at its location that also sits on federal land at the Saint John port, which the provincial government controls.

The Canadian company, previously known as American Iron and Metal, was required to shut down operations as a previous explosion at the plant surpassed approved thresholds. According to reports, the incident was, at minimum, the second explosion to occur within a week.

The department of environment and climate change will organize further in-depth investigations on the matter. Local area residents have made demands for AIM to relocate from the port to an industrial location.

AIM representatives plan to confer with port officials regarding a resolution on plant operations and surrounding concerns.
